1.1 Nature of Amatuer Radio
Syllabus Says:
- Recall that Amateur radio is intended to facilitate hobby radiocommunications.
Ham radio is a hobby. Many people working in the commercial and professional side of radio may also have an amateur license, but put simply it's a hobby. There are rules regarding it's use and outlining the privileges you get. These rules are called License Conditions Determination and often are abbreviated to just LCDs. The LCDs discuss the power and transmission types you are allowed to make, as well as the content. Transmission types (called modes), power and frequencies vary based upon the license you use at the time. Some of the things expressly prohibited are:
- Using amateur privileges for commercial purposes
- Transmitting music or other forms of entertainment
- Causing interference deliberately
- Being disruptive on the air to other users
The thing about all hobbies, and amateur radio is no exception, is that hobbies are meant to be fun!
