Home Brew All band, All mode transceiver

This page is going to document my homebrew transceiver. At present it is only a pipe dream on paper!
This is what I would like (eventually)

Interesting Callsigns

Voltage Dividers 101

Voltage dividers are really simple. You have an input voltage (Vin), a common ground and an output voltage (Vout) you wish to achieve. Stick two resistors (R1 and R2) across the positive and ground rails. The junction where R1 and R2 join will be a voltage somewhere in the middle. This "somewhere" can be determined by the formula:

Vout = ( R2 * Vin ) / ( R1 + R2 )

Dummy Loads

Description

This is a picture of a dummy load I built. It uses 94 resistors in parallel. Each resistor is 4.7KOhm and is capable of handling 5W of power.

Going on the theory that when you stick resistors in parallel the total resistance goes down, we can work out the maths as to how many Ohms this will yield:

Determine total resistance:

R(total) = R(individual)/R(number)

R(total) = 4700/94

R(total) = 50 Ohms.

QRO amplifiers

I'd love to build a QRO valve based linear amplifier of my own one day. Right now, I'm helping Eddie, VK2BEH at my local radio club build an amplifier based on the 813 tetrode.

The plans and original articles come from the March 1999 and April 1999 issues of Amateur Radio magazine, with the design coming from CJ Bourke, VK4YE.

1.2 Types of Licenses

Section 1.1 outlines that Amateur radio is a hobby and that some types of communication are prohibited under an amateur license.
There are many different types of licenses, because there are different kinds of communication. The different kinds of communication have different conditions. Some of these types of licenses are:

1.1 Nature of Amatuer Radio

Syllabus Says:

  • Recall that Amateur radio is intended to facilitate hobby radiocommunications.

Nature of Amateur Radio

The VK Book

A couple of friends of mine and I have been studying up for the theory exam to obtain an certificate in order to receive a ham radio license. The problem is, although the material covered what is required we simply weren't happy with it for various reasons. This book is modeled on the syllabus of what is required knowledge to pass the exam. Whether you choose to use this material as a cram guide, or as a reference is up to you. Each section of the book corresponds to a section in the syllabus, with an additional section at the end to tie the theory together.

VK2VEC Acronyms and Mnemonics

Here are some acronyms and mnemonics my friend Al (VK2VEC) has collected for remembering stuff about radios. Some of them are his, and some of them you may have heard before.
